There’s a candy wall in Gig Harbor, WA, that stops people mid-sentence. Rows of color, floor to ceiling, in a shop that opened its doors on June 6, with lines out the door almost every day since. That shop is Couple of Scoops — and behind the counter is a story worth telling slowly.
From Socks to Scoops
The idea didn’t start with ice cream. It started with Jim Ciaciuch’s daughter, Molly, and a simple problem: when Molly finished high school, there weren’t any jobs waiting for her. Molly has autism, and Jim built his first business, Couple of Socks, a novelty sock shop in the Tacoma Mall, around creating a place where she and her friends with intellectual and developmental disabilities could work, grow, and be part of a team. A few years and a lot of confidence-building later, he was ready for a second chapter — and this one came with a scoop.
It’s the reason we wanted to tell this story in the first place. Couple of Scoops is a shop built around people first — and everything else, including the space itself, was built to support that.
Jim went to ice cream school in Miami Beach, secured the Gig Harbor space, and started building. Not just a menu and a floor plan, but a whole environment — one where every counter, wall, and fixture had to hold up to real daily use while still feeling like a place worth lingering in.
Building a Store That Looks Like It Feels
Anyone who’s opened a retail space knows the gap between the vision on paper and the equipment that actually has to survive opening day, let alone the sixth week of lines out the door. Couple of Scoops needed a candy wall that could handle constant hands-on traffic without losing its shine, and dispensing that kept portions consistent without slowing down a line of excited first-time visitors.
That’s where Rosseto came in. Our dispensers now cover a good stretch of the Couple of Scoops candy wall — not as a backdrop, but as part of the design. The color, the shape, the way the bins catch the light next to the ice cream case: it’s functional first, portion control that keeps the line moving and the store consistent, and it happens to look great doing it. Functionality and design meeting in the same fixture is exactly the kind of problem we like solving.
